Allow Myself to Introduce... Myself.

Hello and welcome to my new blog (that is of course assuming you're not viewing this introductory post in 10 years time). I suppose I should begin with an introduction and tell you all just who I am and what I'm going to be blogging about.

WHO ARE YOU?

My name is Shane Curiel. As of writing this I am a 21 year old male student with a great and many aspirations. Hopefully some of those aspirations will come to fruition in the not-so-distant future, but for now let me tell you what I do know.

I live in the old land of Albion (otherwise known as England) in a small city formerly known as Ratae Corieltauvorum (now Leicester) and currently reside in the peaceful village of Aefa's Tun (now Evington). I was born on the 5th of December, in 1991 to an English mother and a father of Spanish descent, who left my mother when I was only a year old. Consequently, I was raised by my single mother alongside an older and a younger brother.

In my school life I developed an interest in the creative arts (mainly writing and acting). Now, on the border of becoming 22, I attend DeMontfort University in Leicester, where I study a joint honours degree in Creative Writing and Drama Studies. This is my third and final year of studying. Where I go next is anyone's guess.

LOOK TO THE FUTURE

On the one hand, I could continue down the path of the thespian and actor. I currently have a good amount of experience with various theatres and companies in Leicester, including The Little Theatre (which I have been a member of for something like four years now) and Off The Fence. I have performed in everything from musicals to pantomimes, comedies to dramas.

On the other hand, I could focus on the creative writing side of the coin. I've always had a knack for writing stories and find myself constantly flicking through ideas in my head. I'm less experienced in writing than in theatre, but it's still an extremely valid option. Writing a novel or twelve would be fun.

But then there's the other potential paths I've often considered. I used to take Media Studies at GCSE and A level and have always been a huge fan of films and television. I've always liked the idea of presenting for radio or television or even just working in either field. Of course, these aren't the easiest areas to break into for a career and they require a huge amount of work, experience and determination. Part of the reason I'm starting this blog is to get a start on writing in my spare time to build up some kind of experience (but also because it's something I enjoy doing) alongside everything else I do.

EH? WHAT'S UP DOC?

So what else am I interested in? Well this wouldn't be much of an introduction if I didn't mention Doctor Who. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, you can educate yourself here. It has long been something I've been interested in since watching old VHS tapes of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker and I always look at it as one of the key inspirations for my interest in all of the above fields. But before I ramble on like an old fool about Doctor Who (which, for those interested, will be one of the subjects I cover regularly on the blog/s) I'll move on and tell you about another of the things I'll be writing about often.

I've been a gamer all my life, from humble beginnings on the SEGA Master System all the way to the present day and beyond. Another part of the reason I started this blog was to air my thoughts on the industry and all it has to offer, which is again something I'm very passionate about. I'm an avid follower of IGN and their coverage of all things nerd-culture and really feel that it's something I'd love to do myself. So you can expect that to be another of my regular topics to explore.

Beyond(!) that, I'll probably write about whatever strikes me as an interesting topic for discussion. So that said, welcome to my blog and hopefully you enjoy your stay. I will post links to my other blogs when they're ready to go.
